This procedure is recommended to confirm and make correct diagnosis. It is a local procedure done in the office by our physician. It involves taking a small bone marrow aspirates and bone biopsy from your superior posterior iliac spine under local anesthesia. Specimens are send for histologic diagnosis, flow cytometry, FISH and chromosomal analysis. Our physician expertise in hematology enables the center to treat a number of blood related problems such as anemia, leukemia, coagulation abnormalities, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, and other diseases pertaining to red cell, white blood cell and platelets. During your visit the physician will perform a comprehensive physical examination, verify abnormal findings, study your blood under microscopy, order specific testing, make a diagnosis and recommend care plan. |

Biphosohonates Therapy For Bone Metastases |

Cancer can spread and weaken the bones.
Because it destroys the bones it causes
pains and fractures. Bisphosphonates like
Zometa and Aredia are a potent inhibitors
of osteoclast mediated bone resorption. It
decreases the risk of cancer related skeletal
complications and used in conjunction with
Chemotherapy for the treatment of bone
metastases and malignancy related
hypercalcemia. |

Patients planned for this therapy are required by us to have
a dental clearance by their dentist or oral surgeon prior to
initiation of treatment. Periodic follow up to look for signs of
osteonecrosis is a must. If a tooth extraction or dental surgery
is contemplated we recommend discontinuing treatments 2
months prior to scheduled procedure and to resume treatment
one month thereafter to avoid non healing of bone. Patients
will be advised to stop smoking, tobacco chewing and observe
proper dental hygiene while on this therapy. Any signs of tooth
aches, dental carries, tooth loosening should immediately brought
to our attention. |
